| All right, already! Since most light
stands look pretty much the same (the only major differences
are the sizes and heights), we'll dispense with all the images
and just give you specifications (size, weight, dimensions, height,
etc.) as we list them below. Of course, for any items that are
substantially different, we'll include a picture and all the
pertinent details. If you'd like any additional information,
feel free to contact me at any time (contact
information). |

| Now we're getting to some fabulously helpful equipment
that every studio photographer needs: The "Boom!" A
"boom" is a combination light stand and specially-made
boom arm. These are used to hold our hair lights, top lights,
and for anything that needs lighting from above. The best booms
have built-in, sliding "counterweights," which offset
the weight of the strobe we attach to the top end of the boom.
This allows us to position our overhead lights to any angle and
any place we want, since the counterweight basically cancels
out the weight of the strobe attached to the top end of the boom;
it's basically a "weightless" situation, so we have
the ultimate mobility for our overhead lighting. What's a "hairlight"
you may ask? Just look at the professional photographers' pictures
in the top magazines, or in pro portraits; see that beautiful,
healthful-looking shine on the model's hair? Well, in "real
life" that kind of healthy glowing shine is usually not
there - the hairlight is the secret that the pros use
to get this beautiful, shining hair. So for hairlights as well
as any lighting that needs to come from above the model or product,
these booms are used to hold and direct our lights. |
